Join to apply for the Product Manager - Cloud Native role at Canonical.

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. Our customers include leading public cloud providers, silicon manufacturers, and industry leaders across sectors. We are a pioneer in global distributed collaboration, with over 1200 colleagues in 75+ countries and very few office-based roles. The company is founder-led, profitable, and growing.

The product management team at Canonical consists of technologists passionate about delivering products that shape market demands and promote open source software. This application track is for a product management position focused on Cloud Native. Apply if you excel in leadership, communication, technical vision, and can drive product strategy aligned with future business needs.

Although open source has been around for thirty years, it is now fundamental across the software landscape. We believe open source will have an even bigger impact as it enters specialized vertical markets. Our goal is to make open source easier, more reliable, and more secure for deployment and development. We aim to provide the 'most software to most companies,' starting with Ubuntu and expanding to all application classes and compute types. We select product managers for their intellect and drive to advance the open source community, with a focus on improving quality, outreach, and impact. Our product managers define vision and strategy to ensure the delivery of the right products at the right time, pushing technological boundaries into new and existing markets.

One of our key products is Juju, an open source orchestration engine that enables deployment, integration, and lifecycle management of applications at any scale, on any infrastructure using charms. Juju is used by clients, partners, and the community for infrastructure and application deployments across various substrates.

This role is responsible for the commercial strategy and marketing leadership of a cloud native operations product area, including:

  • Juju - the open source orchestration engine for software operators.
  • Identity management - defining authentication, authorization, and identity governance across Ubuntu One SSO and other Canonical products.

Location: This role is remote, based in the EMEA region. You will lead the product lifecycle by reviewing priorities and goals, working closely with engineering leads, and collaborating with cross-functional teams such as engineering, design, marketing, and sales. You will also develop your team through coaching, mentoring, and training, establish KPIs for project reporting, and contribute to strategies for building high-performing teams.

Qualifications include:

  • Experienced in product management within technical domains related to open source software in the cloud native landscape.
  • Experience designing or managing software operations for large-scale distributed systems.
  • Good understanding of cloud native technologies like Kubernetes and Docker containers.
  • Knowledge of enterprise security and compliance requirements in software operations.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
  • Experience with CNCF projects, identity, or observability systems is a plus.

We offer competitive compensation, including annual bonuses or commissions, a personal learning and development budget of USD 2,000, annual holiday leave, and a distributed work environment with biannual in-person team sprints. Working remotely since 2004, Canonical is committed to innovation and high standards for its team members.
