Summary

The purpose of the Child and Youth Program (CYP) Cook position is to perform a variety of food preparation and food service tasks for the CYP. This position may be assigned to Child Development Center (CDC) or the School Age Care (SAC) Program.

Duties

The CYP Cook performs tasks related to food service preparation, kitchen maintenance, and food storage. These include:

  1. Food Preparation and Service: Preparing meats, poultry, seafood, vegetables, sauces, and gravies; cooking and seasoning food following standardized recipes; designing and maintaining meal plans; monitoring food temperatures and conditions; modifying recipes as needed.
  2. Kitchen Maintenance: Cleaning food preparation areas, utensils, and equipment; maintaining a clean and orderly work environment.
  3. Food Storage: Labeling and dating stored items; storing food in accordance with health standards; unloading deliveries.
  4. Additional Responsibilities: Complying with safety, sanitation, and security policies; serving as a mandatory reporter for child abuse and neglect; performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Conditions of employment include obtaining a food handler's card, passing a physical, immunizations, background checks, and meeting age and education requirements. Must be a U.S. citizen with a high school diploma or GED.

Qualifications

Candidates should have knowledge of food handling, preparation techniques, sanitation standards, and the ability to manage large-scale food production. Effective communication skills are essential.

High School Diploma or Equivalent required; must provide proof upon application.
