Overview

The Dutch Linguist performs quality control and on-demand translation tasks, takes on linguistic lead functions on assigned projects, coordinates activities of translators for specific accounts or projects, trains and develops freelancers, and ensures high standards of work within deadlines and quality expectations. They also ensure adherence to the Language Process by the project/team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform copy-editing on assigned projects or accounts
• Perform on-demand translation tasks
• Lead functions on assigned accounts
• Manage translations by internal teams or freelancers for one or more accounts
• Maintain language materials such as glossaries, Style Guides, and work instructions, ensuring quality and currency
• Facilitate good communication among team members and resolve terminology and language issues
• Coordinate a team of freelancers on projects or accounts
• Test and qualify new freelancers and vendors
• Develop and train internal linguists and freelancers according to project needs
• Interact with clients on linguistic matters as needed
• Contribute to the development of improved workflows
• Meet or exceed productivity KPIs
• Achieve goals set by the Project Engagement Manager (PEM)

Requirements

• University degree in Translation, Applied Languages, or equivalent experience
• 4+ years relevant experience in translation/localization
• Fluent in English (written and spoken)
• Native fluency in Dutch
• Thorough understanding of the localization process
• Proficiency with standard software, including Windows and Office
• Experience with TMS and CAT tools such as XTM, SDL Studio, and issue tracking tools like JIRA
• Quick learner of new localization tools and applications
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
• Deep knowledge of terminology across multiple subject areas
• Subject-matter expertise within the company
• Ability to work under tight deadlines and provide constructive feedback
• Coordinate internal and external translators effectively
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Ability to present information clearly and respond to questions from various stakeholders
• Adaptability to practical problems with limited standardization
• Willingness to train and pass on knowledge to others
• Positive communication with customers at all levels
• Ability to work effectively in a virtual team environment
