Descripción del empleo

We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to own the architecture and development of our core data platform, including the design of our data warehouse and infrastructure, co-own and supervise data modeling in our data collection tools, and support diverse data system integrations.

This is a Remote First role, with a preference for candidates based in Spain or Germany due to company registration, but we are open to candidates within +/- 2 hours CET.

Responsibilities

1. Data Platform Ownership: Lead the design and implementation of our scalable and robust data platform.
2. Data Modeling: Engage in data modeling for third-party tools like Benchling, optimizing data structures for integration and use; support stakeholders managing third-party data collection tools such as ERPs and CRMs.
3. Data Visualization and Analytics: Develop and implement analytics layers to support insights, machine learning, and dashboards.
4. Cloud Infrastructure Management: Manage cloud infrastructure to support data operations and applications.
5. Strategic Planning: Contribute to the development of the tech roadmap, aligning with business goals.
6. Supervision and Mentorship: Oversee and mentor junior team members, ensuring best practices and high-quality code.
7. Cross-Domain Collaboration: Work with domain experts, software engineers, and data scientists to model data based on business logic and ensure seamless integration of cloud services.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years of experience in data engineering and platform architecture, especially in startup or scale-up environments.
• Strong experience in data modeling and database design, including modeling scientific data.
• Proven ability to lead complex projects in research or similar fields.
• Collaborative mindset, valuing open communication and consensus.
• Proficiency in SQL and Python for ETL pipelines.
• Advanced knowledge of cloud services, with hands-on experience in GCP or AWS preferred.
• Experience working remotely or in hybrid teams.
• Working knowledge of English.
• Adaptability to changing technology and business needs.
• Willingness to learn and stay updated with industry trends.

Optional: Experience with materials engineering, chemistry, or biological data modeling.
