Join to apply for the Predoctoral researcher at the Microenvironments for Medicine Research Group role at IBEC's Core Facilities

Introduction To The Vacant Position

The Microenvironments for Medicine Group is seeking a PhD student to develop 2D and 3D models of immune system interaction with stem cells in hydrogels with controlled viscoelastic properties. This position is part of the ERC AdG Devise project, aiming to engineer physiological viscoelastic cellular microenvironments. The hydrogels developed will be characterized physicochemically and used to study stem and immune cell interactions, including migratory behavior.

Main Tasks And Responsibilities
  1. Develop tools to understand immune and mesenchymal stem cell interactions in vitro, using mechanical, chemical, and computational techniques.
  2. Synthesize novel viscoelastic hydrogels chemically.
  3. Perform rheological characterization at micro and bulk scales.
  4. Culture cells in 2D and 3D hydrogels.
  5. Apply cellular and molecular biology techniques.
  6. Conduct advanced live microscopy experiments.
  7. Use computational simulations to understand cell-material interactions in viscoelastic environments.
Candidate Requirements
  • Degree and Master in physics, biology, engineering, chemistry, or related fields.
  • Multidisciplinary knowledge or experience with hydrogels, cell biology, especially microscopy techniques, is a plus.
  • Skills: Communication, teamwork, commitment, proactivity, integrity, critical and analytical thinking.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Candidates must not hold a doctoral degree yet.
Advantages
  • Experience in computational modeling of biological systems.
