Offer Description

IRTA is seeking an enthusiastic Postdoc with a PhD in Plant Genomics to join the Genetics and Genomics of Vegetable Crops group at CRAG, within the Genomics and Biotechnology Program. The candidate will contribute to understanding climacteric fruit ripening in melon.

The main focus will be on the project “Genetic dissection of fruit quality and ripening in melon (MELFRUIT)”, studying fruit ripening processes in melon and other cucurbit crops.

Tasks and Responsibilities

• Compare climacteric and non-climacteric melon fruit ripening with cucumber and watermelon.
• Phenotype traits related to fruit ripening, including ethylene production, in cucumber and watermelon.
• Perform comparative transcriptomic analysis of fruit ripening across species.
• Study the role of key melon ripening genes in other cucurbit crops.
• Collaborate within the research team and with external partners.
• Supervise data collection, management, and statistical analysis.
• Write technical and scientific reports.

Required qualifications and experience

• PhD in Sciences, preferably in plant genetics, genomics, biotechnology, or plant physiology.
• Knowledge of plant breeding and molecular tools for agronomic traits.
• Skills in plant and fruit phenotyping.
• Knowledge of genotyping technologies, gene editing, and molecular biology methods.
• Research skills: literature review, data analysis, scientific writing.

Languages

• Proficiency in English (spoken and written).
• Knowledge of Spanish and/or Catalan is valued.

Specific Requirements

• Basic bioinformatics knowledge and sequence analysis.
• Experience in gene/QTL mapping.
