Senior Backend Software Engineer, Rust & Python

At DataBeacon, our mission is to revolutionize the aviation industry using a modern technology stack, open source technologies, and lean architectures.

Our first product is SimpliFID, an Aerodrome Flight Information Service (AFIS) that covers most functionalities of a radar system at a fraction of the costs. Built in Rust, Python, and TypeScript, it sources data from ADB-S and Mode-S Secondary Surveillance Radar (SSR) systems over Asterix CAT021 Surveillance Data Exchange protocol and delivers it to the user with near-zero latency. Our main focus is on scalability, security, and the development and discovery of additional products in the real-time data services for the aviation space.

In anticipation of exciting challenges ahead, we look forward to expanding our engineering team with an exceptional Senior Software Engineer with experience in Rust and Python.

What would you do :

1. Implement, maintain, and upgrade DataBeacon’s backend services.
2. Work with a small, highly motivated, and skilled team of engineers.
3. Participate in the company's technical decisions and roadmap.
4. Explore and experiment with new exciting technologies.
5. Have minimal administrative overhead and the possibility to create a real impact.
6. Submit your first patch in less than a week and your first feature in a month.

You must have :

1. At least 4+ years of relevant professional experience as a Software Engineer.
2. Excellent proficiency working with a low-level systems language, ideally Rust.
3. Excellent command of Python and its ecosystem.
4. Good command of English and strong communication skills.
5. Located in Madrid or surrounding areas.

Nice to have :

• Experience with Apache Kafka, Protocol Buffers, and gRPC.
• Solid fundamentals of operating systems, binary protocols, encodings, databases, and networking.
• Some experience working with embedded hardware.
• Familiarity with containerized, scalable, distributed applications, DevOps, automation, and CI/CD.
• Experience building critical software applications in highly regulated sectors.
• Affinity for aviation in general.
