Job Description:

Context And Mission

We are looking for candidates with a technical background to join the Operations Department of the Center and participate in activities of the BSC Data Management team, supporting scientists with Big Data applications and tools.

Key Duties

• Set up and manage Hadoop and OpenStack platforms on BSC premises.
• Deploy and manage Big Data solutions for researchers.
• Implement software solutions for scientific data management according to research data plans.
• Contribute to data services connected to the Center's distributed computing systems.
• Work with researchers to ensure standards and methodologies for data management are followed.
• Monitor data protection and security applications.

Requirements

Education

• Degree in Computer Science, Physics, Software Engineering, Mathematics, or related fields.

Essential Knowledge and Experience

• Proven experience in similar roles.
• Experience with distributed computing environments (HPC/HTC/Cloud).
• Strong understanding of system administration for Hadoop and OpenStack.
• Knowledge of Big Data management functions and solutions.
• Experience working with large datasets, distributed file systems, SQL, databases, data lakes, and metadata management.
• Proficiency in UNIX/Linux environments and scripting languages.
• Experience designing or implementing GUIs and web interfaces.
• Skills in languages like C/C++, Java, Python, Spark.

Competences

• Fluent in English, written and spoken.
• Ability to meet deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and in teams.
• Enthusiasm for scientific research environments.

• Position located at BSC within the Operations Department.
