Job Description:
Context And Mission
We are looking for candidates with a technical background to join the Operations Department of the Center and participate in activities of the BSC Data Management team, supporting scientists with Big Data applications and tools.
Key Duties
- Set up and manage Hadoop and OpenStack platforms on BSC premises.
- Deploy and manage Big Data solutions for researchers.
- Implement software solutions for scientific data management according to research data plans.
- Contribute to data services connected to the Center's distributed computing systems.
- Work with researchers to ensure standards and methodologies for data management are followed.
- Monitor data protection and security applications.
Requirements
Education
- Degree in Computer Science, Physics, Software Engineering, Mathematics, or related fields.
Essential Knowledge and Experience
- Proven experience in similar roles.
- Experience with distributed computing environments (HPC/HTC/Cloud).
- Strong understanding of system administration for Hadoop and OpenStack.
- Knowledge of Big Data management functions and solutions.
- Experience working with large datasets, distributed file systems, SQL, databases, data lakes, and metadata management.
- Proficiency in UNIX/Linux environments and scripting languages.
- Experience designing or implementing GUIs and web interfaces.
- Skills in languages like C/C++, Java, Python, Spark.

- Fluent in English, written and spoken.

- Ability to work independently and in teams.
- Enthusiasm for scientific research environments.
