Paulino Bernabe Model 15, Spruce top concert-quality classical guitar

The Guitar

The Paulino Bernabé Model 15 is a fully professional concert-quality classical guitar, made in Madrid, Spain. It has the volume, projection, and quality of sound to prove it. The Model 15 is constructed entirely by hand in Paulino Bernabé Jr’s Madrid shop in collaboration with qualified luthiers who work with him using the tools and techniques that traditional luthiers have long used.

Tonally : this guitar offers Paulino’s signature clear and rounded and polished singing trebles. These are balanced well against profound but well-defined basses. It delivers projection and musicality. The separation, intonation, and evenness from note to note are excellent. The handling of this guitar is extremely pleasant, and it sounds distinctly open.

The Model15’s back and sides are made of solid Indian rosewood, it has an ebony fingerboard, and a prime quality German Spruce top. It has a Nitro lacquer finish and is fitted with Schaller tuners. The guitar’s condition is as new and proof of 2019 purchase (I am the first owner) is available, as well as the official PB certificates and a spare set of PB strings and 2 spare string clips.

Bernabé guitars are played in major venues all around the world today. Thibaut Garcia for instance, the winner of the 2016 Guitar Foundation of America (GFA) competition, has been playing on a Bernabe for several years. Listen to Eduardo Costa playing a Bach piece on a M15 here : Bernabé Sr. was one of the greatest and most renowned luthiers from Spain. Before he founded his first workshop in 1969, where along with his son Paulino Jr. he built guitars from the 1980s onwards, Paulino Sr. worked in José Ramirez III’s workshop in the 1950s and 1960s.
