La Universidad de A Coruña busca un investigador en Ciencias de la Computación y Física para un proyecto sobre análisis de datos astronómicos. El candidato ideal tendrá experiencia en técnicas estadísticas y un fuerte trasfondo académico en ingeniería o física. La posición es a tiempo completo y está financiada por la Unión Europea, con un inicio programado para septiembre de 2025.

Formación

• Experiencia en análisis de datos astronómicos y técnicas estadísticas.
• Capacidad para trabajar con catálogos y datos de Gaia.
• Conocimientos de programación y análisis de datos.

Responsabilidades

• Analizar el contenido de tablas del catálogo Gaia DR4.
• Revisar valores y unidades en cada campo del catálogo.
• Identificar problemas instrumentales o de procesamiento.

Job title : SMART DATA FOR MULTICOLOR ANALYSIS OF THE VIA LACTEA IN GAIA

Research line / Scientific-technical services : Computer Science and Information Technology

Job location and schedule : CITIC. Schedule : 9-14 : 00h and 16-18 : 00h.

Support Tasks

Analyze, using statistical techniques, the content of tables produced at different stages of the Gaia DR4 catalog integration. Tasks include :

• Review values and units in each catalog field.
• Assess accuracy and precision of parameters.
• Understand parameter distributions and their expected ranges.
• Identify outliers in parameter distributions.
• Detect instrumental or processing issues.
• Academic background in Engineering / Physics / Computer Science, with an average grade considered in Spain's RD 1125 / 2003.

2. Relevant research experience (up to 2 points) :

• Research scholarships, projects, or collaborations (0.5 points every 2 months).
• Publications or technical reports (0.25 points each).
• Contracts in related organizations (0.5 points every 6 months).
• Patents or software registrations (0.5 points each).

3. Experience in astronomical data analysis (up to 2 points) :

• Processing simulations and data in astronomy (0.5 points every 6 months).

4. International activity (up to 3 points) :

• Language skills (English, 1 point; other major languages, 0.5 points).
• Participation in international meetings, research stays, training schools, outreach activities (points vary).

The position may be vacated if no candidate scores higher than 5 points.
