This role is mission-critical for maintaining the health and scalability of large-scale infrastructure systems. You will collaborate closely with engineering teams to ensure high availability and reliability of services. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in DevOps, strong coding skills, and a passion for creating resilient cloud infrastructure.

Job Description :

We are looking to hire a Staff DevOps Engineer in the Service Infrastructure team. This is a mission-critical role ensuring our large-scale infrastructure systems are healthy, automated, and designed to scale. You will partner closely with the product and platform engineering teams to maintain high availability and reliability SLAs for Affirm services. We seek engineers with strong coding or operations backgrounds and a passion for scalable and resilient cloud infrastructure, who pride themselves on creating self-healing, resilient, and secure infrastructure.

What you’ll do :

  1. Analyze and review internal Affirm applications to design and implement improvements.
  2. Ensure high availability of our cloud infrastructure.
  3. Optimize Kubernetes clusters and resources within.
  4. Manage infrastructure using best practices of infrastructure as code.
  5. Secure business continuity and compliance needs through secure and resilient infrastructure.
  6. Provide self-service solutions for Affirm engineers to streamline their work.
  7. Write high-quality, testable, and easily digestible code that will serve as best practice templates.
  8. Review others' code and designs and provide constructive feedback to meet our high-quality standards.
  9. Design, create, and expand monitoring and visibility systems to ensure the stability of our team's services.
  10. Serve as a technical resource across engineering, especially in guiding product development teams in areas of performance, reliability, and scalability.
  11. Provide daily and on-call support to other engineering teams.
  12. Optimize Affirm systems and code for cost efficiency, security, and compliance.
  13. Participate in on-call rotation as a requirement.

What we look for :

  1. At least 9 years of industry experience, including 5+ years as DevOps.
  2. Proven coding or scripting skills, preferably Python, Golang, or Kotlin.
  3. Strong knowledge of Kubernetes.
  4. Experience in public cloud (preferably AWS).
  5. Design and development of highly available systems (99.999%+ SLA).
  6. Infrastructure as code - preferably Terraform.
  7. Mentoring and enabling other engineers.
  8. Extensive knowledge of monitoring solutions (e.g., Prometheus, ELK).
  9. Coaching, public speaking, managing communities.

Additional skills :

  1. Developing multi-region cloud solutions.
  2. Solid experience in cloud networking - both on cloud and within Kubernetes.
  3. Experience with databases and optimizing database usage within infrastructure.
  4. Good knowledge of SDLC tooling, including CI / CD systems, artifact and container repositories.

Base Pay Grade : P

Equity Grade : 6

Employees new to Affirm typically start at the beginning of the pay range. Affirm offers a transparent pay structure based on location, experience, and skills.
