We are currently searching for a Sustainability Compliance Manager based in Madrid or Valencia (hybrid role) to support the EMEA team.

This role will manage Corporate Responsibility/Sustainability compliance needs, covering the areas of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and product sustainability and will support internal and external collaborators to understand the requirements in detail and strategic direction of regulations.

What you will be doing

- Data and Compliance Reporting Management:

  • Coordinate product and packaging data collection for EPR compliance on Packaging, WEEE, Batteries, and other initiatives.
  • Oversee the reporting activities associated with the above across all countries where a requirement exists.
  • Support external country/cluster level ERP audits and inspection visits. Work with site, country leads or product owners until findings are closed out.
  • Support the requirements associated with ERP through business acquisitions, mergers and spin-offs.
  • Integrate product stewardship and ERP governance into EHSS and ensure clear processes for impacted functions.
  • Ensure relevant information on ERP is made available to customers in line with all relevant EMEA and local laws.

- Compliance tracking, assessment and governance:

  • Work with EHS, Legal and Market Access to identify, monitor and track new relevant legislation globally and participate in impact assessment with relevant functions.
  • Work with EHSS Chemical Governance staff where there is crossover between chemical and EPR legislation.
  • Participate in all relevant Medtech Europe Groups covering forthcoming EPR, Packaging, Circular Economy and EcoDesign legislation.
  • Collaborate with other CEHSS team members and other business functions as needed to ensure the impacts of EPR compliance are understood and coordinated into suitable governance mechanisms.
  • Ensure EPR requirements are included in CEHSS audits, establishing a system of checks around internal compliance with requirements.

- Goal Setting and Continuous Improvement:

  • Help develop product and packaging goals that drive continuous improvement e.g. packaging material guidelines for R&D, manufacturing and transport and logistics functions.
  • Monitor standard methodologies in circular economy, packaging, take-back and other EPR programmes to ensure Baxter continues to meet customer and regulatory expectations in this space.
  • Conduct training for internal staff as needed.
What you will bring
  • Degree or equivalent experience in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, or other area related to Environment, Health and Safety or Sustainability.
  • Experience (5+ yrs) in Sustainability/ Corporate Responsibility.
  • Experience within medical devices or pharma industry is preferable, but food and drink /electronics or other sectors impacted by EPR also considered.
  • Knowledge of EU policy and legislation in the environmental and product stewardship areas, and an understanding of the EU decision making processes is desirable.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English skills and local language as needed.
  • Be comfortable working with EU legislation and external organizations.
  • Be able to interpret of complex technical information and communicate with a broad range of collaborators and drive compliance through influence.
  • Willing to undertake up to 10-20% regional travel and occasional global travel.
