We are Applus+ Laboratories , the division of the Applus+ Group that provides testing, certification, and product development engineering services.
Currently we are recruiting for the Medical Devices Managing Director who will be responsible for developing the Medical Devices business unit into a leading provider and market leader for certification and testing worldwide. Reporting to the EVP Applus+ Laboratories, this role will be based in our Headquarters in Bellaterra, although other locations could be considered.
Main responsibilities will include :
- Business Unit Development : Consolidate all current activities about medical devices doing in the division and create a new Business Unit. Define and drive an ambitious growth strategy to position Applus+ as a global leader in Medical Devices TIC services
- P&L Management : Oversee and manage the budget and financial statements to ensure the profitability of the business unit.
- Strategic Coordination : Collaborate with other Business Directors to develop and implement operational and commercial strategies in the Medical Devices sector, ensuring productivity, quality, and business development. Lead go-to-market initiatives in collaboration with sales, marketing, and regional leaders, ensuring consistent brand positioning and market traction.
- Business Planning : Execute forward-thinking business plans, aligning operational strategies with market trends and company goals. Develop and lead an investment roadmap, including capability-building (labs, accreditations, technical talent) and strategic partnerships to accelerate market penetration and global presence. Actively pursue business development opportunities, including large key accounts, framework agreements, and regional expansions. Create scalable and innovative service models, leveraging digital tools, automation, and harmonized global operations to drive differentiation and client satisfaction.
- M&A Participation : Engage in the M&A process, from due diligence to strategic partner acquisition, to foster company growth and market expansion.
- Quality Management : Ensure the implementation and maintenance of technical procedures and quality management systems.
- Team Coordination : Lead go-to-market initiatives in collaboration with sales, marketing, and regional leaders, ensuring consistent brand positioning and market traction. Coordinate and collaborate with diverse teams, including marketing and sales, to achieve business objectives.
- Strategic Growth & Market Expansion : Identify emerging trends, technologies, and regulatory drivers in the medical device sector to anticipate client needs and proactively shape service offerings. Evaluate and prioritize high-growth segments (e.g., active implantables, digital health, combination products), aligning services to demand in both mature and developing markets.
Requirements :
- Experience : Proven experience as a manager in the Medical Devices sector, preferably in TIC companies, with a minimum of 10 years of experience.
- Skills : Excellent organizational and leadership skills, outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities, and demonstrated ability to create and manage matrixed relationships and develop new business activities.
- Education : BSc / BA in business administration, finance, or engineering; MSc / MBA is desirable.
- Languages : Advanced or native level in English / Spanish; other languages will be a plus.
- Travel : Availability to travel to Applus+ sites and visit clients.
