Job Description: Senior Research Scientist - AI (Spain)

NielsenIQ's Innovation Team is expanding its AI capabilities and is seeking a Senior Research Scientist for the Core Models team in Spain. This multidisciplinary team works on AI areas such as recommender systems, extreme classifiers, and Large Language Models (LLMs).

Your responsibilities will include staying current with AI research (focusing on NLP, Computer Vision, and related fields), implementing state-of-the-art algorithms on large-scale problems, and proposing novel ideas. The primary focus will be developing and customizing LLMs for consumer insights, integrating knowledge of NIQ's business sectors (FMCG and Tech & Durables), and building downstream applications. Opportunities to produce scientific content like patents or conference/journal papers are also available. The role involves data analysis, researching techniques, and supporting the development, testing, and delivery of proof-of-concept solutions.

Job Responsibilities:
  1. Investigate, develop, and apply machine learning innovations with minimal supervision.
  2. Perform feasibility studies and analyze data to determine suitable solutions.
  3. Lead innovation efforts on custom Large Language Models.
  4. Work on various data challenges, ensuring solutions are simple, scalable, reproducible, and maintainable.
  5. Communicate results effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  6. Collaborate within a team, fostering motivation and effective relationships.
Qualifications:
Required Education, Skills, and Experience:
  • Master's degree in computer science or a related numerate discipline.
  • At least 4-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong foundation in computer science, linear algebra, and probability.
  • Extensive experience in Machine Learning and Deep Learning, especially Transformers.
  • Proven expertise in Natural Language Processing and Large Language Models.
  • Ability to understand scientific papers and translate ideas into executable code.
  • Track record of innovation, including publishing in AI conferences/journals and applying AI advances to real-world problems.
  • Data analysis skills and hands-on experience with datasets, ML models, and evaluations.
  • Proficiency in Python, PyTorch, Huggingface, Git, Pandas/Polars, sklearn.
  • Proactive, curious, persistent, and solution-oriented attitude.
  • Effective communication skills in English (minimum B2 level).
  • Interest in working within a diverse, international, and inclusive team.
Preferred Education, Skills, and Experience:
  • PhD in science, preferably NLP, with specialized coursework.
  • Experience with large, real-world datasets and scalable ML solutions.
  • Previous experience in eCommerce, retail, FMCG, or Consumer Insights sectors.
