Principal Software Developer (IC4) – Oracle Life Sciences

Location : Spain (Remote)

We are seeking a Principal Development Engineer with expertise in distributed systems and cloud services to join our engineering team in Oracle Health / Life Sciences. The services developed will be crucial for Oracle Health's success, supporting our customers in assessing market viability of new treatments, bringing these treatments to market, and ensuring long-term wellness and safety of patients worldwide.

Our engineers influence both technical and business aspects by designing and building innovative systems that power critical applications for our customers.

As a Principal Development Engineer, your responsibilities include designing, building, and operating applications, components, and services spanning big data technologies, distributed computing, storage replication, and efficient data planes to serve life science clients and improve patient care. You will work on broad and deep software systems engineering challenges, owning the development of new features from concept to deployment. Ensuring high-quality code, following best practices, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement within your team are key aspects of your role. Your work impacts millions of patients worldwide, contributing to better health outcomes. You will also mentor junior team members, promoting engineering excellence.

Responsibilities include :

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including Architecture, Product Strategy & Development, QA, Sales & Services, and Central teams—to architect and design multiple products.
• Promote good software engineering practices and uphold high code quality standards through reviews, static analysis, and test automation.
• Lead the team in deploying and managing scalable, reliable code in production, utilizing agile methodologies, telemetry, metrics, and on-call rotations.

Qualifications :

• BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• Over 10 years of experience in designing and implementing complex software systems.
• Proficiency in major Object-Oriented Programming languages like Java or C++.
• Experience in scalable software architecture design.
• Strong understanding of data structures and design patterns.
• Experience with RESTful Web Services or cloud platforms such as OCI, AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Experience working with large data systems like Data Lakes and Relational Databases at scale.
• Familiarity with complex system integrations involving identity, permissions, or high-performance APIs.
• Experience with massively scalable systems is advantageous.
• Experience in healthcare systems or medical data is a plus.

As part of the software engineering division, you will contribute to defining and evolving standard practices and procedures, including software development, design, and debugging tasks.
