A leading company in financial services is seeking a Director, Public Policy Iberia, to manage relationships with key stakeholders including politicians and regulators. The role involves overseeing policy initiatives in Spain and Portugal, developing engagement strategies, and ensuring alignment with public policy objectives. Ideal candidates will have extensive experience in public policy and government relations, fluency in Spanish and English, and the ability to collaborate across various teams and stakeholders.

Formación

  • Experience in public policy, government relations, or public affairs, either in-house or consultancy.
  • Experience in developing policy positions and government policy responses.

Responsabilidades

Director, Public Policy Iberia

The Director of Public Policy for Iberia will manage relationships with politicians, regulators, government officials, and key third-party stakeholders in Iberia, covering both domestic and EU issues relevant to Mastercard.

This role involves overseeing departmental logistics, managing relationships with consultancy support and suppliers, and developing thought leadership and engagement strategies across Spain and Portugal. The director will also coordinate with Mastercard Public Policy colleagues to ensure consistent messaging and stakeholder management.

The role includes contributing to Mastercard’s Public Policy strategy, supporting the multi-rail vision that includes card and account-to-account payment solutions.

Oversight of the Iberia Public Policy Department
  • Report to the Director, Public Policy, Western Europe, overseeing policy activities in Spain and Portugal aligning with business objectives.
  • Support local management teams in business protection and growth, keeping them informed of policy activities.
Development of Policy Positions
  • Collaborate internally to develop proactive and reactive policy positions.
  • Manage research, responses to consultations, and thought leadership materials.
  • Engage third parties to develop thought leadership platforms.
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Participate in industry groups and represent Mastercard in Spain and Portugal.
  • Manage external engagement programs and develop stakeholder databases.
  • Ensure effective communication and briefing materials for stakeholder meetings.
Communication and Intelligence
  • Organize policy events, develop engagement materials, and identify new opportunities.
  • Produce internal briefings on political developments and represent the department in internal meetings.
Resource Management
  • Manage external consultancy relationships, ensuring value and relevancy.
  • Explore new ways of working with external providers.
Knowledge & Experience
  • Experience in public policy, government relations, or public affairs, either in-house or in consultancy.
  • Knowledge of EU and Iberian legislative processes.
  • Experience in developing policy positions and responses to government policies.
Skills
  • Fluency in Spanish and English; Portuguese is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across a matrix organization.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience with government or regulatory agencies in financial services or related sectors.
  • Knowledge of payment services, fintech, banking sectors, and international political institutions.
  • Additional language skills are desirable.
