A climate finance company is seeking a Project Development Director to oversee the full lifecycle of carbon projects. This role requires strong leadership in managing compliance with carbon market standards, ensuring project success from feasibility to monitoring. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in carbon project development and a relevant academic background, coupled with excellent skills in GHG accounting and stakeholder engagement.

Job Summary
The Project Development Director will lead the full lifecycle development of Improved Agricultural Land Management (IALM) projects under the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and Climate, Community & Biodiversity (CCB) standards within the Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM). This role involves driving projects from early-stage feasibility through to carbon credit issuance and monitoring periods. Responsibilities include managing all phases of project development—scoping, feasibility, documentation (Project Descriptions, Monitoring Reports), validation, verification, and compliance with evolving methodologies.
The Director will coordinate across data science, agronomy, MMRV, farmer engagement, business development, and marketing teams, while engaging externally with validation/verification bodies, consultants, and stakeholders. Success requires strategic foresight, process leadership, and up-to-date knowledge of carbon market regulations and methodologies.
Key Responsibilities
Candidate Profile
Experience & Background: Proven experience managing 3–5+ land-based carbon projects under VCS, expertise in AFOLU project development, familiarity with carbon accounting and methodologies.
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s in Environmental Science, Agronomy, Sustainability, Engineering, Business, or related fields; technical training is a plus.
Technical Skills: Deep understanding of GHG accounting, proficiency with digital monitoring, remote sensing, project management tools.
Project Leadership: Ability to manage multi-stakeholder projects, facilitate coordination, translate technical info into workflows.
Soft Skills: Solutions-oriented, proactive, strong leadership and communication, adaptable to fast-paced environments.
