Join Our Team

At Groupon, we're on the lookout for an experienced Director of Cloud / Infrastructure. If you're a seasoned leader with a passion for driving technological innovation, and a proven track record in managing cloud and infrastructure teams, this opportunity is perfect for you. Your expertise will be instrumental in shaping our cloud strategy, overseeing critical infrastructure, and leading our engineering teams to achieve excellence.

As the Director of Cloud / Infrastructure, you will oversee our cloud infrastructure and on-prem solutions, guiding strategic planning and implementation to align with company goals. You will lead and inspire a team of top engineers, manage critical infrastructure projects, and ensure our systems are secure, efficient, and scalable.

You will work closely with our CTO, Vojtěch Ryšánek, and senior management team, to ensure alignment with strategic goals and swift progress.

Responsibilities

1. Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of 30+ engineers, including hiring, training, and motivating top talent.
2. Strategic Planning: Develop and implement cloud and infrastructure strategies to drive technological innovation and efficiency.
3. Cloud Management: Oversee the development and maintenance of our cloud infrastructure, including budgeting and spending oversight.
4. Technology Oversight: Stay abreast of new technologies, ensuring the team’s skills are up to date, and integrating cutting-edge solutions.
5. Operational Excellence: Ensure the reliability and security of our systems, handle SLAs, and drive continuous improvement in our infrastructure.
6. Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including CTO, VP's, CISO, and other leaders to align goals and ensure successful product delivery.
7. Budget Management: Develop and maintain a cloud budget, monitoring spending and ensuring cost efficiency.
8. Risk Management: Provide strategic risk guidance and consultation, evaluating technical standards and controls.
9. Client and Industry Relations: Establish and maintain relationships with clients and industry leaders to enhance our cloud strategy and implementation.
10. Performance Monitoring: Monitor team performance, provide feedback, and drive the continuous improvement of our release processes.

What We’re Looking For

1. Experience: Proven experience in managing and leading teams of 20+ in cloud and infrastructure.
2. Technical Expertise: Deep hands-on experience with relevant cloud and infrastructure technologies (GCP is a strong preference), Kubernetes, Databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka), Jenkins.
3. Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire global teams, driving them to achieve organizational objectives.
4. Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues.
5. Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of articulating complex technical concepts to various stakeholders.
6. Passion for Innovation: Energetic and forward-thinking, with a passion for leveraging technology to drive business success.

Nice to Have

1. Business Acumen: Understanding of business strategy and financial forecasting.
2. Tool Proficiency: Familiarity with Groupon tech stack including Kubernetes custom operators, Envoy / Istio, Terraform / Ansible, Java, Rails, Golang, Node, React, Jira, Confluence, and Asana.
3. Hybrid Cloud Experience: Experience in hybrid cloud environments, combining on-prem and cloud solutions.
