A leading company, part of a major international business group, and currently expanding into new business areas, is looking to hire a Director Mechanical Engineer.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director Mechanical Engineer to join our Data Center Technical Department. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in leading the design, supervising construction phases, and defining processes and procedures for the operations phase. This senior-level position requires a deep understanding of mechanical systems in data centers and the ability to drive innovation and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to deliver exceptional results.

Responsibilities:

  1. Strategic Mechanical System Leadership:
    1. Lead the design and development of innovative mechanical systems for next-generation data centers, ensuring energy efficiency, reliability, and sustainability.
    2. Provide technical direction and oversight for complex mechanical infrastructure, collaborating with internal teams and external partners to meet organizational objectives.
    3. Champion the integration of advanced cooling, ventilation, and fire protection technologies to enhance data center performance and operational efficiency.
  2. Project Design Support:
    1. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to define and review advanced mechanical specifications and requirements for data center projects.
    2. Evaluate and select high-performance mechanical systems, ensuring alignment with project goals and industry standards.
    3. Ensure mechanical designs meet global sustainability targets and are adaptable to future technological advancements.
  3. Construction Phase Supervision:
    1. Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of mechanical systems during the construction phase, ensuring adherence to technical specifications and quality standards.
    2. Conduct comprehensive site inspections to verify compliance with design requirements and to address mechanical challenges effectively.
    3. Act as the primary point of escalation for mechanical system issues during construction, working closely with contractors and vendors to implement solutions.
  4. Operations Process and Procedure Definition:
    1. Develop and document advanced processes and procedures for the maintenance and optimization of mechanical systems.
    2. Lead the deployment of monitoring and diagnostic tools to ensure mechanical systems operate efficiently and reliably.
    3. Provide strategic training and technical guidance to operations teams, enabling them to manage cutting-edge mechanical systems effectively.
  5. Innovation and Research:
    1. Research emerging trends and technologies in mechanical engineering, incorporating innovative solutions into data center designs.
    2. Partner with R&D teams to prototype and validate advanced mechanical systems before large-scale implementation.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Proven experience in mechanical engineering leadership roles within the data center or related industries.
  • Expertise in designing, implementing, and optimizing complex mechanical systems, including HVAC, cooling, and fire protection.
  • Strong understanding of energy efficiency, sustainability practices, and mechanical system integration.
  • Exceptional project management and organizational skills, with the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of influencing stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to travel to global data center sites as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification.
  • Extensive experience with mechanical lifecycle management, from concept design to decommissioning.
  • Familiarity with advanced mechanical monitoring, analytics, and system optimization tools.
  • Track record of contributing to industry standards or publications related to mechanical engineering.

This role represents a Principal-level position, providing thought leadership and technical expertise to ensure the successful delivery of data center projects while driving innovation and operational excellence.
