MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Canadian Solar seeks an experienced commercial lawyer to lead its EMEA legal team. The ideal candidate is a confident self-starter with strong interpersonal and organizational skills, capable of providing sound legal advice, exercising good business judgment, and working effectively with senior management, outside counsel, and customers.
LEGAL
- Structure, negotiate, and draft complex agreements for sales of PV products (modules, batteries, inverters) and PV turnkey solutions
- Draft and negotiate other agreements, such as procurement, operation & maintenance, and inter-company agreements
- Advise the Credit team on security arrangements for large transactions, including letters of credit and parent guarantees
- Communicate legal risks and obligations to relevant teams in China
- Ensure compliance with EU laws such as Batteries Regulation and Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive
- Monitor compliance with supply chain laws, including due diligence and forced labor laws
- Develop and implement legal policies, processes, and contract templates
- Drive the use of AI solutions within the Legal Team
- Manage a team of commercial lawyers qualified in Spanish, English, and German
- Coordinate and supervise outside counsel, balancing costs with business goals
- Uphold the highest ethical standards and compliance with company policies
COMPLIANCE
- Maintain compliance programs, data, records, and training in the EMEA region
- Assist with customer compliance requirements and contract clauses
- Manage anti-bribery, anti-corruption, and KYC processes, performing risk assessments
- Provide compliance advice to management and operational teams
- Prepare compliance reports for senior management
- Collaborate on sanctions, cybersecurity, privacy, and conflict of interest matters
- Handle data protection policies and ensure GDPR compliance
COMPETENCIES
- Qualified commercial lawyer in England & Wales, Spain, France, or Germany
- Minimum 8 years of experience in top-tier law firms or international legal departments, with expertise in sales contracts
- Deep knowledge of cross-border trade, payment systems, tariffs, IP laws, and related topics
- Experience in solar renewables, EPC contracts, disputes, or product law is advantageous
LANGUAGES
- Bi-lingual in English and Spanish or German; additional European languages are a plus
