Job summary

Markel Spain is seeking a Business Transformation & Data Manager to lead operational excellence, process reengineering, and strategic projects across Southern Europe from Madrid. The role bridges Operations, Technology, Data and Business stakeholders, delivering scalable processes and data-driven decisions.

You will drive data initiatives, governance, and system integration while collaborating with European Data engineers and IT teams to ensure impactful, compliant outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Data Science, Mathematics or a related technical subject area. Equivalent professional experience, supported by relevant technical certifications, will also be considered.
• 5-10 years of experience in Business Analysis, Technology or Transformation functions.
• Experience in insurance, financial services or regulated industries.

Responsibilities

• Leading business transformation and process excellence initiatives across Southern Europe region, identifying operational improvements, automation opportunities and scalable ways of working.
• Translating business requirements into functional and technical specifications, supporting system integration, automation, testing and implementation activities.
• Coordinating strategic projects across Operations & IT, Finance, Underwriting, Claims and European Data teams, ensuring clear governance, reporting and stakeholder alignment.
• Acting as the primary contact for European Data Engineers & Analysts teams, supporting the development, prioritisation and delivery of scalable data solutions.
• Working with IT colleagues to ensure solutions meet technical standards and are efficiently implemented.
• Applying knowledge of data, SQL, Power BI, Databricks, Excel and Microsoft 365 to support reporting, process improvement and digital productivity initiatives.
• Assessing project proposals, business cases, dependencies, risks and issues, recommending corrective actions where needed.
• Preparing executive presentations, decision papers and project updates to support governance and decision making.
• Monitoring progress, budget, resourcing, third-party contributions, overall delivery performance and lessons learned, ensuring smooth transition to business as usual.
• Developing KPI frameworks, dashboards and management information to support data-driven decision making, operational performance and executive reporting.
