Construction Manager, Design and Construction

DESCRIPTION

Amazon, founded in 1995, aims to be the world's most customer-centric company, offering a vast selection of products online. The successful candidate will be a vital part of the operations team, responsible for managing projects related to the planning, design, and construction of new Amazon Fulfillment Centers.

This role includes extending existing facilities and developing new sites. The Construction Manager will play a key role in developing and implementing the EU network infrastructure, analyzing various facility scenarios, and standardizing technical and facility-related processes and systems. The position combines expertise in construction engineering, planning, project management, facilities management, and contract management. Proven experience in the planning, design, and project control of new and existing facilities is essential.

The role offers opportunities to travel and work across multiple countries and cultures. It is based anywhere in ESP, ITA, FRA, DEU, or GBR, with approximately 50% travel within EMEA.

Key job responsibilities

• Oversee construction engineering, planning, and design for Amazon Fulfillment Centers and related projects.
• Support projects for new fulfillment network buildings and capacity expansion within existing centers.
• Design and plan on new and remodel projects.
• Prepare reports, specifications, and technical analyses to define design requirements and equipment needs.
• Survey facilities, develop procedures for audits, and evaluate infrastructure, safety, and security issues.
• Negotiate contracts with vendors and prepare approval documentation.
• Ensure contracts are appropriate, cost-effective, and include suitable Service Level Agreements.
• Manage site operations, coordinate planning, and oversee subcontractors.
• Conduct due diligence on new opportunities.
• Guide project teams throughout project lifecycle.
• Monitor contractor performance and address issues.
• Audit contractor skills and inform them of resource changes.
• Establish and maintain information systems for scheduling and record-keeping.
• Support contractors to improve performance.
• Mentor new team members on best practices.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• B.Sc in Civil Engineering, Architecture, or equivalent.
• Experience in project management, construction, or engineering, managing both new builds and upgrades.
• Construction market experience in EU countries is a key asset.
• Experience from design to operation phases.
• Negotiation experience in construction, procurement, and labor contracts within the EU.
• Proven management of construction quality systems.
• Leadership experience.
• Fluency in English.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Knowledge of Six Sigma and Lean tools.
• MRICS, RIBA, or equivalent qualification.
• Chartered Engineer or equivalent.
• Experience deploying new systems from scratch is preferred.
• Language skills in German, French, Polish, Arabic, Turkish, Afrikaans, or Zulu are advantageous.
