DESCRIPTION

The Data Center Construction Cost Control (CCC) team is part of a larger, highly creative and passionate team dedicated to deploying our continuously evolving Amazon data center facilities.

As a Construction Cost Engineer, you will be responsible for providing cost support, guidance, and recommendations to the Data Centre project delivery team to ensure effective cost management across a portfolio of fast-paced construction projects. You will be involved throughout the full life cycle of construction projects, working with experts from design, construction, procurement, finance, and legal teams to deliver efficient and innovative data centers. You will help drive multimillion-dollar projects, embodying Amazon's core values including frugality and high standards across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. This role is based in Dublin, Ireland; London, UK; Berlin, Germany; or Zaragoza, Spain.

Key job responsibilities
  1. Engage and manage third-party Quantity Surveyors.
  2. Validate construction cost estimates at various design stages.
  3. Collaborate seamlessly with multi-disciplinary teams, both internal and external.
  4. Communicate cost control goals effectively to all stakeholders.
  5. Identify Value Engineering opportunities and quantify potential savings.
  6. Identify project risks and assess their financial impacts, communicating findings to the team.
  7. Maintain a repository for historical data.
  8. Define and track cost performance metrics; lead monthly cost reporting.
  9. Analyze vendor proposals using AWS benchmark data and provide timely feedback.
  10. Create accurate bid leveling documents.
  11. Validate final award amounts and scope based on contract documents.
  12. Implement and execute all cost control, change management, and performance reporting procedures.
  13. Validate construction change cost impacts.
  14. Ensure vendor invoices are accurate and submitted on time.
  15. Support project close-out and final payments.
  16. Deliver results across multiple projects, managing priorities consistently.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • 8+ years of experience in construction cost control, with knowledge of electrical, mechanical, or CSA cost elements.
  • Experience communicating estimate strategies to diverse professionals.
  • Experience in Data Center or mission-critical construction environments.
  • Proficiency with estimating software such as CostX, Cubit, Onscreen Takeoff, Timberline, and Bluebeam.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience reviewing and justifying budgets and estimates.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to develop creative solutions to reduce costs without compromising quality or reliability.
  • Experience with Data Centre or life sciences projects.
