JOB PURPOSE

The role of Cloud Data Engineer is pivotal to the implementation and support of Straumann’s global data platform and the delivery of high-quality data products to our stakeholders across the business. As a member of the global Data & Analytics team, the role focuses on the implementation and maintenance of scalable data pipelines and platform features that enable data consumers to self-serve on our platform.

Working in an Agile scrum team, the Cloud Data Engineer will collaborate closely with enterprise data architects, application developers, data owners, and other key business stakeholders to ensure seamless and efficient incorporation of data from across the organisation. Bringing strong technical expertise in cloud environments, the role will play a key part in enabling data-driven decision-making across Straumann.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Participate in the development, deployment, and continuous improvement of data product-related services, ensuring they are scalable, reliable, and secure.
  • Integrate key business data from various source systems into the cloud-based data lakehouse, with reusability and self-service principles at the centre of all development efforts.
  • Create logging and monitoring services, implementation of quality metrics, etc. to ensure high performance and reliability of data pipelines and products.
  • Perform monitoring of platform tools and data pipelines to ensure minimal downtime.
  • Align with Global Data Architecture on integration strategies, data architecture principles and data standards
  • Contribute to data upskilling through the creation of user-friendly documentation and training materials related to platform features

Requirements

Education and Experience :

  • University degree in computer science or related domain
  • 7+ years of total working experience
  • 5+ years of hands-on data engineering experience in a cloud environment
  • Hands-on proficiency in cloud environments, ideally having worked with AWS technologies like S3, Redshift, Glue, etc., as well as industry-leading data warehousing and cataloging tools.
  • Strong expertise in CI-CD pipelines (e.g., Github Actions) and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform).
  • Development experience in programming languages like Python, PySpark, and experience in SQL optimization and performance tuning.
  • Hands-on work experience in an SAP BW or Datasphere environment an advantage
