A leading company in the laboratory services industry is seeking a Laboratory Shift Supervisor for their branch in Las Palmas. This role involves overseeing team performance, ensuring efficient operations, and maintaining safety and quality standards. The ideal candidate will have a background in chemistry or engineering, strong leadership abilities, and experience in laboratory environments. Fluency in both English and the local language is required, alongside essential organizational skills for managing processes and team member adherence to protocols.

Formación

Job Purpose

Responsible for overseeing performance and organization during the shift. May accept laboratory analysis and related assignments when required, ensuring the timely delivery of laboratory reports by coordinating and managing the complete workflow.

General Responsibilities
  1. Assist Laboratory Manager and/or Branch Manager in their responsibilities at the location.
  2. Ensure efficient organization of all department processes and personnel during the shift to meet client needs accurately and promptly.
  3. Manage operations cost-effectively while maintaining safety, quality, employee satisfaction, and asset maintenance. Collaborate fully with Laboratory Manager, Assistant Branch Manager, Branch Manager, and other managers.
  4. Follow all company procedures, including HSE Manual, Accounting Policies & Procedures, Saybolt Administration Instruction Letter, IT procedures, Ethics Policy, Saybolt Compliance Code, and stay updated on all updates.
  5. Report directly to Laboratory Manager, Assistant Branch Manager, and/or Branch Manager.
Qualifications, Education, and Experience
  1. Minimum professionalism certificate related to chemistry/laboratory or a Chemistry/Engineering university degree; or 2-3 years of relevant experience.
  2. Knowledge of petrochemical products, chemicals, gases, liquid cargoes, or agricultural products.
  3. Fluent in local language and English, both verbal and written.
  4. Proficient in MS Windows, Word, Excel, and company systems.
  5. Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication, and team-building skills.
  6. Highly organized, positive, problem-solving, and analytical.
  7. Capable of using work tools like Connect, Excel spreadsheets, etc., and reporting with some autonomy.
  8. Ability to coordinate team activities, organize chemists' work, and communicate effectively with managers.
  9. Ensure staff adherence to client instructions, international test methods, safety procedures, and company policies.
  10. Monitor timelines, communicate progress, and intervene when necessary.
  11. Accept laboratory analysis assignments when required and ensure timely report delivery.
  12. Review laboratory reports for completeness and accuracy.
  13. Provide updates and final reports to clients timely to meet KPIs.
  14. Participate in safety meetings, investigate incidents, and promote safety.
  15. Assist in reviewing staff expenses, time records, and incentives.
  16. Collaborate with Safety Officer to ensure safety compliance.
  17. Ensure compliance with IATA regulations for sample transportation.
  18. Communicate complaints and claims immediately to management.
  19. Organize regular staff and management meetings.
  20. Prepare and deliver training presentations for clients as needed.
  21. Maintain knowledge of analysis and safety standards, including ASTM, UOP, IP, etc.
  22. Assist in setting up and implementing new methods and applications.
  23. Complete laboratory data sheets and use laboratory software accurately.
  24. Perform and maintain laboratory procedures, calibration, and documentation in compliance with quality standards.
  25. Perform complex calculations and ensure traceability of testing results.

  • Handle sensitive information confidentially.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Work irregular hours/shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as necessary.
  • Be prepared for job assignments at any time, including rotating after-hours dispatching.
  • Perform analytical work safely and in accordance with standards.
