Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations, International Operations and Advisory Directorate (IOAD), International Field Office, Container Security Initiative Division located in Algeciras, Spain.

Experience:

You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:

  1. Performing the job duties that equipped you with the skills of a Journeyman level CBP Officer.
  2. Performing a wide range of complex analytical, research, and advisory responsibilities and other specialized assignments involving work in enforcement and administration of laws governing the importation of containerized cargo to the United States.
  3. Supervising Customs and Border Protection related work activities is preferred.

Must:
  • Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process;
  • Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 03/25/2025.

Background Investigation: U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is a federal law enforcement agency that requires all applicants to undergo a thorough background investigation prior to employment.

Polygraph Examination: The CBP OFFICER (CONTAINER SECURITY-TEAM LEAD) position is a polygraph-required position. If you are not a current CBP employee in a law enforcement position, you may be required to take a polygraph exam and have favorable results to continue in the pre-employment process.

Other Details:
  • Probationary Period: Current and former federal employees may be required to serve or complete a probationary period.
  • Tour of Duty: The employee will serve a two-year initial tour, with opportunities for two additional two-year extensions, subject to host country and Department of State regulations.
  • Return Rights: Prior to the end of your tour, you will submit a prioritized list of up to five preferred duty locations for reassignment.
  • Annual Leave: Earn leave at the same rate as stateside, with maximum accumulation increasing to 45 days at a CSI station.
  • Home Leave: Earn 5, 10, or 15 days of home leave per year based on your foreign post assignment and post differential rate.
