Business Intelligence Engineer II, Maintenance Automation Platform

Amazon is seeking a Business Intelligence Engineer to derive statistical and analytical insights from our extensive services supporting one of the world’s largest Reliability, Maintenance Engineering (RME) platforms. As part of the Maintenance Automation Platform team, you will support the business across all levels of the automation pyramid by collecting, storing, analyzing, and providing machine data to internal stakeholders within Amazon’s WW Fulfillment Network.

Our systems connect low-level automation with the cloud, aligning with industry standards and best practices. Advanced systems leverage Machine Learning and Big Data to enable predictive actions, reducing downtime and defects, and improving overall equipment efficiency.

This role requires excellent statistical and analytical skills, deep knowledge of business intelligence solutions and data engineering, strong business acumen, and effective collaboration skills across teams. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, detail-oriented, adaptable to a fast-paced environment, and innovative in their approach.

Key job responsibilities

  • Architect, design, implement, and support a secure platform for large datasets.
  • Engage with business customers to deliver comprehensive BI solutions.
  • Model data and metadata for reporting needs.
  • Develop and maintain metrics, reports, dashboards, and analyses to inform business decisions.
  • Adopt best practices in reporting : ensuring data integrity, testing, validation, and documentation.
  • Analyze problems thoroughly, understanding their broader context.
  • Use data mining and modeling techniques for customer segmentation and predictive analytics.
  • Respond to high-priority requests from senior leadership.
  • Understand Amazon’s data resources and their appropriate applications.
  • Improve reporting processes, automating and supporting self-service data access.

The candidate should possess strong business acumen, curiosity, analytical prowess, technical skills, excellent communication, and leadership qualities. Comfort with ambiguity, attention to detail, big-picture thinking, and adaptability are essential. Collaboration with RME teams and the broader BI community is also required.

About the team

The Maintenance Automation Platform (MAP) team ensures machine data leads to effective proactive and predictive maintenance actions. Our goal is to mature and unify core software tools into a cohesive platform.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience analyzing data with Redshift, Oracle, NoSQL, etc.
  • Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau or Quicksight.
  • Experience in data modeling, warehousing, and ETL pipelines.
  • Proficiency in SQL and scripting (Python) for data processing.
  • Experience in the BI / data space.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with AWS services such as EC2, DynamoDB, S3, Redshift.
  • Experience with data mining, ETL, and managing large datasets in a business environment.
