Impala Terminals Group is seeking a Business Development Manager in Madrid to drive growth in Spain. The role requires hands-on development of new business, strengthening existing customer relationships, and leveraging a strong ocean freight background.

You will work closely with operations and cross-border teams to deliver tailored logistics solutions. Ideal candidates have proven ocean freight experience, a robust network in the Spanish logistics community, and fluency in Spanish and English.

Formación

  • Proven experience in ocean freight forwarding and international shipping.
  • Strong track record in sales and commercial growth within logistics or freight forwarding.
  • Fluent in Spanish and English, both written and spoken.

Main Purpose

We are looking for an entrepreneurial and commercially driven Business Development Manager to join our growing freight forwarding business in Spain. This is a hands-on role, based in Madrid, for a logistics professional who combines strong ocean freight expertise with proven business development capabilities. The candidate will develop new business through their existing network. They will strengthen current customer relationships and help grow them. They will contribute to growing our activities in Spain.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and implement a business development strategy for the Spanish market, with a particular focus on maritime cargo transportation.
  • Identify, prospect, and acquire new customers across relevant industries and trade lanes.
  • Develop and maintain strong, long-term relationships with existing customers.
  • Leverage your existing network and customer portfolio to generate immediate commercial opportunities.
  • Manage the full sales cycle, from prospecting and qualification through negotiation, closing, and account development.
  • Prepare and negotiate commercial offers, pricing, and service solutions in collaboration with internal teams and partners.
  • Monitor market trends, customer needs, competitor activity, and worldwide shipping movements to identify new business opportunities.
  • Achieve agreed revenue, gross profit, and business development targets
Account Management & Customer Development

Act as a trusted commercial partner for key customers. Understand customers' supply-chain requirements and develop tailored logistics solutions. Find opportunities to increase customer share of wallet and introduce additional services. Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction and proactively address commercial issues. Coordinate closely with operations and other internal collaborators to ensure excellent customer service and operational execution.

Entrepreneurial & Strategic Contribution

Take ownership of the development of the Madrid operation and contribute to its long-term growth. Identify new markets, customers, trade lanes, and service opportunities. Work closely with international colleagues and management to develop cross-border business opportunities. Contribute to developing the company's commercial presence and reputation in Spain.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Proven professional experience in ocean freight forwarding, with a strong understanding of international shipping, trade flows, and freight forwarding solutions.
  • Demonstrated track record of business development, sales, and commercial growth within the logistics or freight forwarding industry.
  • Strong existing network of contacts within the Spanish logistics/import-export community.
  • Experience managing client connections and negotiating commercial agreements.
  • Fluent Spanish and English, both written and spoken.
  • Additional experience in Full Truck Load (FTL) transport.
  • Experience working with international customers and global trade lanes.
  • Existing relationships with shippers, importers/exporters, manufacturers, retailers, or other relevant cargo owners.
  • Experience developing a business or market from an early stage.
