Job summary

SumUp is seeking an Employment Counsel based in Barcelona to lead day-to-day Spanish employment law matters. You will work with the People Team and Barcelona Works Council, collaborating with EU colleagues to ensure consistent practices across Europe.

You will draft contracts, policies, and handle disputes, with an office-first, Barcelona-based setup and opportunities for professional growth within a global team.

Qualifications

• Qualified lawyer in Spain with 3–6 years of experience focusing on Spanish employment law.
• Experience advising HR and business stakeholders on practical, commercial matters.
• Track record drafting employment contracts and managing employment disputes.
• Comfort with Works Council relations and collective consultation processes.
• Fluency in Spanish and English.

Responsibilities

• Provide practical, day-to-day legal advice on Spanish employment law across the lifecycle of employees.
• Draft and review employment contracts, policies and other employment documentation.
• Support Works Council consultations and collective employment matters.
• Advise on disciplinary matters, terminations, mutual separation agreements and organisational change.
• Manage external counsel for specialist support or litigation when needed.
• Partner with the wider EU Legal Team to harmonize practices across Europe.
