GALEO is seeking a Python Software Backend Engineer to build backends and APIs for real-time data integration with clients. You’ll design data models, develop services that publish and consume events, and deploy on AWS, working closely with clients to understand business problems and deliver production-ready solutions.

You will use AI tools daily to assist development, review code, and document features, aiming for clean, maintainable code and scalable architectures. Remote work is available.

Competenze

• 3+ years backend development with Python.

We are looking for a Python Software Backend Engineer to build the backends and APIs behind our solutions: services that consume and publish events, store and serve data, and integrate with our clients’ systems in real time.

We are not looking for someone who just resolves tickets. We want someone who talks to the client, understands the business problem behind each request, and converts it into code that works in production. In addition to this, it is important to have AI integrated into your daily way of working, not just as something you test from time to time.

What you will do day-to-day

• Python backend and API development (FastAPI or similar), with modular, tested, and easy-to-maintain code.
• Data model design and working with relational and NoSQL databases, mainly PostgreSQL and DynamoDB.
• Development of services that produce and consume events on Kafka or other pub/sub systems.
• Deployment and operation of these services in AWS alongside the rest of the team.
• Client meetings to gather requirements, turn them into concrete features, and propose how to solve them.
• Use of AI tools throughout the entire cycle: design, development, testing, code review, and documentation.

Key Requirements

• 3+ years developing backend with Python.
• Experience designing and building REST APIs.
• Strong SQL skills and experience with PostgreSQL. Knowledge of DynamoDB or other NoSQL databases, and understanding when it makes sense to use each one.
• Basic knowledge of AWS, especially its database services (RDS/Aurora, DynamoDB). You don’t need to be a cloud expert.
• Experience with Kafka or other pub/sub tools (SNS/SQS, RabbitMQ, MQTT…) and event-driven architectures.
• You use AI tools daily for development (Claude Code, Cursor, Kiro, Codex, or similar) and critically review what they generate.
• You feel comfortable speaking with clients: you ask the necessary questions to understand what they need and know how to explain technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders.
• You have worked with containers (Docker, ECS/Fargate) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
• You have built serverless services with Lambda and API Gateway.
• You have experience with CI/CD, observability, and monitoring of production services.
• You come from a consultancy background or have worked on projects with end clients.
