Being a Backend Engineer at Mercadona Tech

We like to say that we, engineers, are product-minded. We see technology as a means to achieve our goals, which is Selling Lettuce (Vendiendo Lechugas). This mindset involves participating in all process stages and collaborating with roles such as Product Managers, Designers, and Operations Managers, not just implementing solutions. As data-driven professionals, we access relevant data to inform our decisions, understanding the impact of our actions both individually and as a team.

Our workflow revolves around feedback loops to maximize learning while minimizing costs. We embrace Lean Software Development and Extreme Programming practices like Pair Programming, TDD, and Small Safe Steps to keep solutions simple and avoid overengineering.

Technology at our Backend Team

• Multiple deployments daily thanks to our CI/CD pipeline, with team autonomy in deployment. More details are available in our post: Continuous deployment. How to enhance the quality of our products.
• We follow an Event-Driven Architecture for service communication.

Our backend services are primarily in Python, with PostgreSQL databases for persistence.

• Our observability stack includes ELK for logging and APM, Sentry for error tracking, and Prometheus/Grafana for telemetry and custom metrics.

About You

We seek a Product Engineer with a blend of technical skills, creativity, and a deep understanding of e-commerce and logistics. Passion for clean code, feedback, and Extreme Programming is essential, but training is provided if needed.
