Job summary

ALTEN Spain is seeking a Backend Developer (AI Engineering) to design and own Python/FastAPI services, delivering REST APIs and leading AI workflows in real insurance processes. The role is hybrid with Barcelona/Madrid locations and involves architecture input and data integrations.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, apply best practices in microservices, and contribute to scalable backend solutions, with English communication at the core of daily tasks.

Qualifications

• 2-4 years of professional backend experience.
• Strong Python design and service architectures; readable code.
• Solid understanding of REST APIs, microservices patterns, Git workflows and Docker.
• Experience with at least one major cloud provider (Azure or AWS).
• Fluent English (C1) for documentation, reviews and communications.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and own Python/FastAPI backend services and REST APIs, from first commit to production.
• Implement AI agent workflows that run inside real processes.
• Integrate LLM capabilities into application features (RAG pipelines, tool-calling agents, multi-agent systems).
• Connect and maintain integrations with data sources and third-party APIs.
• Take end-to-end ownership of features: scope, build, ship, and fix.

Location: Hybrid from Barcelona/Madrid

• Design, build and own Python/FastAPI backend services and REST APIs, from first commit to production.
• Implement AI agent workflows that run inside real insurance processes.
• Integrate LLM capabilities into application features, including RAG pipelines, tool-calling agents and multi-agent systems.
• Connect and maintain integrations with internal and external data sources and third-party APIs.
• Take end-to-end ownership of features: you scope, build, ship and fix.
• Contribute to architecture decisions, your opinion matters here.

What do we need?

• 2-4 years of professional experience building backend services. You have shipped production code and know what maintaining it means.
• Strong Python: you design service architectures, handle errors properly, and write code other people can read.
• Solid understanding of REST APIs, microservices patterns, GIT workflows and docker.
• Experience with at least one major cloud provider (Azure or AWS).
• Fluent English (C1). All documentation, code reviews and stakeholder communication is in English.
