Job summary

ALTEN Spain is seeking a full-stack software engineer to join a team building data pipelines, tooling, and AI-enabled applications. You will work remotely from Spain on projects spanning backend systems, light front-end, and experimentation platforms.

You will mentor AI Research Interns, help move prototypes toward production, and collaborate with researchers to turn research code into reliable, maintainable software. The role emphasizes rapid iteration with governance and thorough documentation.

Qualifications

• Full-stack capable software engineer with backend, data pipelines and basic frontend.
• Experience taking ML/data-science prototypes through initial productionization and handover to production teams.
• Comfortable working with ambiguous, research-grade code.
• Cloud and infrastructure experience.
• Nice-to-have: experience building LLM-based tools and agents.

Responsibilities

Location: Remote from Spain.

• Build and maintain the sandboxes, data pipelines, and tooling that support rapid experimentation across the portfolio.
• Take prototypes through *light hardening* to handover-readiness after a "go" decision — deployable on the organization's agentic development platform — with full production hardening owned by the receiving team (R&D consults; it does not own production).
• Design and ship internal tools and applications end-to-end, including light front-end where needed.
• Partner with the Lead Research Scientist and external research teams to turn ambiguous research code into reliable, maintainable systems.
• Mentor AI Research Interns on engineering practice.
• Own tooling and infrastructure choices under right-sized, pre-production governance — rapid iteration without production-grade overhead.
• Keep infrastructure and pipeline designs documented as a working habit, so no system depends on a single person's memory.

What do we need?

• Full-stack capable software engineer — backend, data pipelines, and basic frontend.
• Experience taking ML / data-science prototypes through *initial* productionization (early-stage MLOps to handover-readiness), alongside other core engineering strengths — e.g. building data pipelines, experiment and evaluation tooling, model/API integration, and rapid prototyping.
• Comfortable working directly with ambiguous, research-grade code.
• Cloud and infrastructure experience.
• Nice-to-have: Experience building LLM-based tools and agents. Working ML / data science literacy (valued, not required as the primary craft).
