Descripción del empleo

Our employee-owned and integrated team of multi-disciplined design and engineering professionals has an exciting new opportunity available for an experienced transportation / civil engineer who has a passion for leading and developing others and progressive experience designing and managing various rail and transit related projects.

As an Assistant Group Manager (AGM), a key responsibility will be to coach, mentor, and develop a talented group of emerging civil engineering and construction professionals between our San Bernardino and Seattle offices. You will provide design and construction administration services on infrastructure projects and capital improvement programs for Class I and short line railroads, rail transit and commuter agencies, and industrial projects throughout the country. Additionally, you will advocate for and promote a safety-first culture that prioritizes employee well-being, whether in the office or on active project sites.

With insight into our strategic and annual business plans, you will engage with your team to outline development plans and set achievable goals that foster professional growth and align with TKDA's business objectives. Through regular discussions, you will guide team members on design requirements, address challenges, coach on project management, and delegate tasks to develop their technical skills.

Collaborating with Regional Vice Presidents, the West Coast Group Manager, and Market Managers, you will determine project assignments, assemble project teams, conduct quality reviews, and oversee project scope, fee estimates, and design coordination efforts. You will also work to enhance and expand the design capabilities of your team based on sector trends.

In your capacity as a project manager, you will evaluate project scope, coordinate deliverables, and ensure successful execution from conception through construction. You may also serve as lead engineer, conduct QA/QC reviews, mentor others, and contribute to proposal development for new projects or client outreach.

This role requires residency within a reasonable commuting distance of San Bernardino and the ability to travel regionally or nationally as needed. TKDA offers flexible hybrid work arrangements (3 days in-office, 2 days remote).

Qualifications:
  • Registered Professional Engineer with 5-15 years of progressive design experience in freight rail and mass transit track design, including mainline, yard, siding, intermodal, and industrial tracks.
  • Experience managing multi-disciplinary projects, client expectations, scope, budgets, and schedules.
  • Knowledge of project development processes, from preliminary design to construction, with a focus on safety and compliance.
  • Strong communication skills for coaching, client interactions, proposals, and technical documentation.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours and travel up to 25%.
  • Familiarity with railroad/transit operations, regulations, AREMA standards, and possession of a valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Additional PE licenses in other states.
  • Business development experience, including proposal and fee estimate preparation.
  • Experience with infrastructure projects for Class I railroads or transit agencies.
  • Active AREMA membership and involvement.
  • Proficiency with MS Project, Civil3D, Microstation, or InRail.

Salary range: $100,660 - $148,805 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

To be considered, candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S., possess a valid driver’s license, and be able to travel as required. A pre-employment background check and drug screening are mandatory.
