APM Terminals in Spain seeks an Assets & Industrial Connectivity Engineer to enable asset data flow to our digital platform and support AD deployments across terminals.

You will configure hardware, define technical requirements, train staff, map signals with OEMs, and ensure secure, scalable connections using Ignition, PLCs, and related IoT technologies.

Formación

  • Minimum five years in technology and/or operations, preferably automation within the transport or logistics sector.
  • Hands‑on experience in real‑time industrial environments such as shipping or port operations.
  • Strong understanding of port equipment, automated systems, controls, and industrial infrastructure architecture.
  • Intermediate to expert proficiency in PLC programming and troubleshooting across major brands (Siemens, ABB, Yaskawa, Fuji, Omron, GE Fanuc, etc.).
  • Solid experience with industrial network protocols, device communication, IoT integration, field devices, edge computing, and relevant programming languages.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity practices in industrial and IoT environments.

Responsabilidades

  • Enable data flow from asset to servers and define documentation of Asset Digitization requirements.
  • Audit terminals to define technical needs and action plans prior to projects.
  • Configure hardware devices to enable data flow and install/retrofit hardware.
  • Coordinate signal mapping tasks with OEMs and ensure signals are accessible within Ignition.
  • Supervise and support AD deployments across terminals with stakeholders, suppliers and OEMs.
  • Present solutions and training, and support independent execution post go‑live (FAT/SAT).
  • Contribute to hardware architecture design, development, and implementation for AD products.

Purpose

Operational excellence is a core strategic pillar of APM Terminals. The Asset Digitization (AD) Solutions team within Process Automation requires an Assets & Industrial Connectivity Engineer to enable the physical connection of assets to our digital platform, ensuring repeatable, high‑quality deployments across terminals.

Responsibilities
  • Enable data flow from asset to servers.
  • Define and document Asset Digitization technical requirements to establish connections between terminal assets and the AD application.
  • Audit terminals to define technical needs and action plans prior to project implementation.
  • Configure hardware devices to enable data flow.
  • Transfer knowledge and conduct training for terminal staff.
  • Define user templates for equipment types and ensure proper signal classification.
  • Coordinate signal mapping tasks with OEMs and ensure signals are accessible within the Ignition platform.
  • Install or retrofit hardware and sensors in alignment with user templates.
  • Supervise and support AD deployments across terminals, collaborating with stakeholders, suppliers, and OEMs.
  • Present solutions and associated hardware to stakeholders, deliver training, and support independent execution.
  • Provide support for AD products before and after go‑live, including FAT and SAT participation.
  • Support suppliers and OEMs in preparing relevant product and project documentation.
  • Contribute to the design, development, and implementation of hardware architecture for AD products.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Minimum five years of experience in technology and/or operations, preferably in automation within the transport or logistics sector.
  • Hands‑on experience in real‑time industrial environments such as shipping or port operations.
  • Strong understanding of port equipment, automated systems, controls, and industrial infrastructure architecture.
  • Intermediate to expert proficiency in PLC programming and troubleshooting across major brands (Siemens, ABB, Yaskawa, Fuji, Omron, GE Fanuc, etc.).
  • Solid experience with industrial network protocols, device communication, IoT integration, field devices, edge computing, and relevant programming languages.
  • Experience in managing and troubleshooting network infrastructure, servers, firewalls, virtualization, databases, backups, and archiving policies.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity practices in industrial and IoT environments.
  • Strong collaborative, problem‑solving, and adaptable skills in a team setting.
  • Strategic and critical thinking abilities, including stakeholder management, requirements analysis, and product optimization.
  • Extensive experience with SCADA systems, especially Ignition.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++, Python, and Linux.
  • Experience with cloud IoT platforms or big data ecosystems is a plus.
  • Lean mindset and continuous improvement focus.

Education
  • Engineering degree or equivalent.
  • Ignition certification desired.
