AI Engineer to join a leading global alternative investment fund with a focus on AI and Data. You will be part of an exciting journey of a start-up within a global fund. As the AI Engineer, part of this role will be to help build the culture and environment as we expand our footprint. Working with LLM, AI, and theoretical machine learning fundamentals.

Please note – You must have demonstration of academic excellence via a bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, a hard science, or a related field, ideally from a top university.

This role will be fully office based; you must be open to working in the Madrid office. Must hold EU citizenship or TIE for Spain.

What You Will Be Doing

• Actively engage with a wide range of business functions to leverage deep machine learning knowledge and exposure, with AI at their core
• Design and deliver systems and machine learning models that solve commercially impactful real-world problems
• Frame business problems and commercial opportunities into AI problems, demonstrating judgment and acumen to understand the true business need beyond the stated requirements
• Challenge current systems and processes to achieve common goals through technical excellence and innovation
• Stay abreast of progress in AI and technology trends to keep us at the forefront of what is possible
• Empower and trust AI engineers to leverage their skillsets for impact from day one

What You Will Need to Succeed in This Role

• Demonstration of academic excellence via a bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, a hard science, or a related field, ideally from a top university
• Deep understanding of theoretical machine learning fundamentals and practical knowledge of building real-world ML systems
• Experience leveraging LLMs in production, with understanding of prompt design, agentic workflows, eval harnesses, retrieval pipelines, etc.
• Knowledge of LLM inference stack fundamentals such as KV Caching, Speculative Decoding, Parallel Decoding, and test-time compute ideas
• Excellent programming and system design skills, with recent experience in Python and ideally C++, Java, or .Net
• Experience working with SQL databases
• An entrepreneurial mindset, willing to take ownership and pursue problems, thriving on innovation
• Ability to own all aspects of an AI project from start to finish
• Financial Services experience is a bonus but not essential
