We are seeking a skilled software engineer to join our team at the European Space Agency's base in Villanueva de la Canada, Madrid. This is an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects and contribute to the development of science archives.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, deploying, operating and maintaining the ESDC Science Archives and Virtual Observatory subsystems. This will involve supporting the analysis of user requirements, working on the design and modelling of archive databases and archive data models, archiving applications and data, and configuring software control activities associated with archive development.

You will also have the opportunity to participate in working groups, workshops, conferences and meetings where science archives and virtual observatory standards and practices are discussed. In addition, you will interact with the general international community of astronomers / scientists / users and connect with ESA partners.

Requirements

  • A Master's Degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • At least 4 years of relevant work experience
  • Experience in relational databases (mainly PostgreSQL and Oracle), DB management software (DB Administration)
  • Experience in SQL and XML
  • Desire to work both autonomously and as part of a team, in an international multicultural environment
