Offer Description

We announce one PhD position within the TRansient Plasmas in Planetary Atmospheres (TRAPPA) group at the IAA - CSIC in Granada, Spain.

The PhD project focuses on investigating atmospheric electricity phenomena, especially lightning's chemical role, using space- and ground-based measurements, modeling tools, and data analysis.

The position is for 3 years, with a possible extension, starting around September 16, 2025, with a monthly gross salary of 1600 EUR (14 payments). The candidate will have full social security coverage, including health insurance.

Requirements
  • Master's degree in physics, applied mathematics, or meteorology.
  • High academic achievement, proficiency in programming (Python, Fortran), data analysis, and excellent English skills (C1 level).
Specific Requirements

The project involves analyzing data from Meteosat Third Generation instruments and exploring lightning's chemical effects on regional and global scales using models like WRF.

Additional Information

Applicants can still apply if they are completing their Master’s by September 2025, but must be registered as doctoral students at the University of Granada by then.
