We announce a PhD position within the TRansient Plasmas in Planetary Atmospheres (TRAPPA) group at the IAA - CSIC in Granada, Spain. The PhD will investigate atmospheric electricity phenomena, focusing on lightning's chemical role using optical measurements, satellite data, ground-based measurements, and modeling tools like WRF. The project aims to analyze Meteosat Third Generation data to explore correlations between lightning activity and atmospheric chemical pollution.
Analysis of Meteosat data to quantify lightning-produced NOx and investigate lightning's chemical role using WRF and measurements.
Duration: 3 years (possible 1-year extension). Salary: 1600 EUR/month (14 payments). The start date is flexible but ideally September 16, 2025. Full social security coverage provided, including health insurance. Living costs in Granada are lower than in other parts of Spain.
Applicants without a completed Master can apply if they plan to complete it by September 2025 and register as a doctoral student at the University of Granada by then.
