We announce one PhD (doctoral) position within the TRansient Plasmas in Planetary Atmospheres (TRAPPA) group at the IAA - CSIC in Granada, Spain. The PhD position focuses on investigating atmospheric electricity phenomena, particularly the chemical role of lightning in the atmosphere, using optical measurements from space and ground-based instruments, and modeling with the Weather Research and Forecasting Model (WRF). The candidate will analyze data from the Meteosat Third Generation satellites, the Atmospheric Space Interaction Monitor (ASIM), and other measurements to study regional and global atmospheric chemical pollution.
Analysis of Meteosat data to identify correlations between lightning activity and chemical pollution, developing methods to quantify nitrogen oxides produced by lightning, and investigating atmospheric chemical processes using the WRF model.
The position offers a full-time employment for 3 years with an optional extension, a monthly gross salary of 1600 EUR, and employment with full social security coverage, including health insurance. The starting date is flexible but ideally September 16, 2025. Living expenses in Granada are relatively low.
