Research Position Details

We announce a PhD position within the TRansient Plasmas in Planetary Atmospheres (TRAPPA) group at the IAA - CSIC in Granada, Spain. The position focuses on investigating atmospheric electricity phenomena, lightning's chemical role, and regional/global atmospheric chemistry using space- and ground-based measurements, modeling tools, and data analysis from satellite instruments like MTG, VLF/LF networks, LMA, and the ESA's ASIM mission.

Employment Details

Full-time employment as a PhD student for 3 years, with a possible extension. The salary is 1600 EUR/month with 14 payments, including full social security coverage and health insurance. The start date is flexible but ideally September 16, 2025.

Requirements
  • Master's degree in physics, applied mathematics, or meteorology.
  • High academic achievement and excellence.
  • Strong programming skills (Python, Fortran) and data analysis interest.
  • Good command of English (C1 level), academic writing, and presentation skills.
  • Experience with satellite data analysis and atmospheric modeling is a plus.
  • Motivated, flexible, proactive individual.

Eligibility

Applicants can have their master's degree by early September 2025 and must be registered as doctoral students at the University of Granada by then.
