We announce one PhD position within the TRansient Plasmas in Planetary Atmospheres (TRAPPA) group at the IAA - CSIC in Granada, Spain. The PhD will investigate atmospheric electricity phenomena, focusing on lightning's chemical role using space- and ground-based measurements, and modeling tools such as WRF. The project includes analysis of data from Meteosat Third Generation instruments and the Atmospheric Space Interaction Monitor (ASIM).
Full-time employment as a PhD student for 3 years, with a possible 1-year extension. Starting date negotiable, ideally September 16, 2025. Full social security coverage and a gross salary of 1600 EUR/month (14 payments). Living expenses in Granada are comparatively lower.
The main task involves analyzing Meteosat data to uncover correlations between lightning activity and atmospheric chemical pollution. The candidate should be flexible, motivated, and proactive.
Applicants without a master's degree but planning to obtain one by September 2025 can apply, provided they register as doctoral students at the University of Granada by then.
