Descripción del empleo

WHO ARE WE? Sateliot is a Barcelona-based startup in the New Space sector, aiming to become the first satellite telecommunications operator providing global and continuous connectivity for the Internet of Things (IoT) universe under the 5G protocol. We are launching a constellation of advanced nanosatellites at low altitude, acting as mobile towers. Sateliot complements large telecommunications companies by providing infrastructure in areas where terrestrial technologies do not reach.

YOUR MISSION

Design and develop Ground Support Equipment (GSE) for the satellite industry. You will be responsible for creating mechanical systems for satellite and spacecraft projects, initially focusing on GSE and later on satellite mechanical subsystems. This role offers a hands-on experience, requiring independent work and collaboration with cross-functional teams. It presents a unique opportunity to be the first mechanical engineer at Sateliot, contributing to the development of critical mechanical systems for satellite manufacturing and gaining valuable experience in the space industry. The ideal candidate is a versatile, independent problem-solver with a passion for space exploration and technology.

YOUR MAIN FUNCTIONS
  1. Design GSE mechanical jigs and mechanisms to support Manufacturing, Assembly, Integration, and Test (MAIT) activities.
  2. Design mechanical components and systems for spacecraft, ensuring they meet functional and environmental requirements.
  3. Utilize CAD tools like SolidWorks to create 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings.
  4. Perform mechanical and thermal analyses to evaluate material and component behavior in space conditions.
  5. Select appropriate materials and manufacturing techniques for space applications, focusing on lightweight, durable, and radiation-resistant materials.
  6. Conduct or collaborate on thermal, structural, vibration, and environmental testing to validate designs.
  7. Work closely with electrical and system engineers to ensure system integration and performance.
  8. Develop documentation for proper use and handling of GSE and subsystems by the MAIT team.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Educational background in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in spacecraft or satellite industry or similar remote, high-quality manufacturing environments.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
  • Experience designing GSE, testing jigs, or similar systems.
  • Understanding of spacecraft design requirements, including thermal, vacuum, and radiation effects.
  • Experience with spacecraft materials such as aluminum, honeycomb panels, heat pipes, etc.
  • Ability to work independently with a proactive attitude.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and effective communication skills.
NICE TO HAVE
  • Experience with thermal analysis tools like ANSYS or COMSOL.
  • Knowledge of space-qualified materials and manufacturing techniques.
  • Experience in designing for manufacturing and cost-effective processes.
  • Familiarity with industry standards (NASA, ESA, ISO).
  • Experience with system-level integration and testing of spacecraft.
  • Background in small satellite systems development.
