A leading research university in Spain is seeking a First Stage Researcher to contribute to innovative projects in organic chemistry. The role involves synthesizing new fluorophores and analyzing data, requiring a Master’s degree and experience in organic synthesis. Candidates should be fluent in Spanish; knowledge of Catalan and English will be positively evaluated. This is a full-time position starting in October 2025, with a contract ending in April 2027.

Offer Description

Carry out research tasks within the Functional Organic Systems Group, as part of the project “Innovations in Supramolecular Chemistry: The Central Role of Metals and Metalloids”. Duties include: the synthesis and characterization of new fluorophores for the selective detection of metals and biomolecule labeling, data analysis, and the preparation of periodic reports.

Graduate in Chemistry. Master’s degree in an area related to chemistry or organic chemistry. Experience as a research support technician.

Prior experience

Experience in organic synthesis, especially in the synthesis of organic chromophores and fluorophores, as well as squaric acid derivatives will be valued. Experience in the study of systems that respond to light stimuli will be valued. Experience in laboratory management and organization will also be considered an asset.

Eligibility criteria

• Curricular merits in the field (max. 40 points).
• Qualifications in the specialist area (max. 20 points), other (max. 5 points).
• Video curriculum and, if applicable, personal interview (max. 20 points).
• Experience in the field (max. 15 points). E.g.: > 3 years (10 points), < 3 years (5 points).
• Other merits (max. +5 points). E.g.: recommendation letters.
Eligibility threshold: 60 points.

Candidates who hold the qualification corresponding to the required category in the job offer with a non-EU degree, if selected, must present a certificate of equivalence of their non-EU qualification to a European qualification, or proof of having applied for this equivalence, in order to proceed with their hiring. In accordance with article 8 of the REGULATORY AGREEMENT 145140 of 15th June 2022 that approves the regulation governing the recruitment of research staff under chapter 6 allocation of the university budget, as well as technical or operational research staff.

i. The relevant Pro-Vice-Chancellor for research (or delegated representative) as chair.
ii. The supervisor (or delegated representative).
iii. The members of the Research Area Assessment Committee (CARAI).
iv. One or more expert members in the topic pertaining to the recruitment and chosen by the chair of the committee, where applicable.
v. The head of FORHU (or delegated representative), as secretary, who may speak but not vote.
