A multidisciplinary team is looking for two early-career researchers for PhD positions in computational geosciences, focusing on groundwater modelling. The project involves developing numerical tools for karst systems, requiring a Master's degree related to geosciences and competencies in scientific programming and collaboration.
2 PhD positions in computational geosciences: Numerical modelling of karstic systems
Data Science #geology #karst #computational science #water science
You are seeking an exciting PhD project focused on groundwater modelling with significant scientific and societal impact. Candidates should have an interest or experience in geosciences and quantitative methods. The project involves developing numerical tools to model groundwater behavior and speleogenesis in karstic aquifers using reactive transport approaches. Karst systems are widespread, supplying freshwater to about 15% of the global population, but are highly complex, vulnerable to contamination, and affected by climate change (droughts and floods).
We are a multidisciplinary research team funded by the European Research Council, comprising physicists, mathematicians, computer scientists, and hydrogeologists from Spain, France, Canada, Slovenia, and Switzerland. Our goal is to create novel models for groundwater flow and solute transport in karst systems across multiple scales, based on strong physical principles, integrating field, laboratory, and numerical experiments. We are seeking two early-career researchers to join our team, focusing on numerical modeling aspects.
