Universidade de Vigo on the Spain campus seeks a First Stage Researcher (R1) in the Signal and Communications Theory group. You will develop and optimize electromagnetic simulation tools for radiation, scattering, and propagation problems.

The role focuses on implementing numerical methods (frequency-domain finite differences, finite elements, and integral-equation hybrids), developing full-wave models for metamaterials, and designing scientific software in C++ for HPC environments.

Formación

• Academic background and courses with verifiable professional experience.
• At least 3 years of proven experience in scientific software for EM or computational simulation.
• Experience with finite difference/finite element/integral equation methods and parallel computing.
• Contributions to scientific software, publications, or high-performance numerical tools.
• Personal interview for candidates meeting minimum merit.

Offer Description

Develop and optimize electromagnetic simulation tools for solving complex problems involving radiation, scattering, and propagation.

Implement and validate advanced numerical methods, particularly frequency-domain finite difference techniques, finite element methods, and hybrid methods based on integral equations.

Develop full-wave models for composite materials, periodic structures, and metamaterials.

Design scientific software in C++, optimizing algorithms for multi-core architectures and high-performance computing (HPC) clusters.

Validate results by comparing them with analytical solutions, commercial simulators, and experimental data.

Document the developments carried out and collaborate on the evolution of the simulation tools used in research projects.

If necessary, applicants must meet the requirements to apply for their HPS.

Requirements

• Item 01: Academic background and other courses. Verifiable professional experience. Knowledge of languages (Spanish, English, Galician) with practical application in a professional setting (punctuation: 30)
• Item 02: At least 3 years of proven experience in developing scientific software for electromagnetic or computational simulation, using C++ and advanced numerical methods. Experience in implementing, validating, and optimizing algorithms for complex electromagnetic problems (punctuation: 25)
• Item 03: Experience in finite difference methods, finite element methods, integral equations, or full-wave techniques, as well as in parallel computing (OpenMP, MPI, or similar), Linux, and development for HPC environments. Knowledge of composite materials and metamaterials is a plus (punctuation: 20)
• Item 04: Other qualifications relevant to the position, particularly contributions to scientific software, technical publications, specialized training, participation in international projects, or demonstrable experience in the development of high-performance numerical tools (punctuation: 10)
• Item 05: Personal interview. The interview will be conducted only with those candidates whose total merit score reaches a minimum of 50 points (punctuation: 15)
