Job summary

NIRAS in Copenhagen is seeking engineers for tunneling and underground structures. Roles range from Engineer to Senior Engineer, with a focus on broad underground design, soil-structure interaction, and construction methods.

Applicants should hold an MSc in Civil/Structural Engineering and have 5–15 years of design experience, including underground work. The team collaborates across geotechnical, bridge, hydraulic and environmental specialties, using English daily.

Qualifications

• MSc in Civil or Structural Engineering or equivalent.
• 5–15 years of design experience, with underground/heavy civil experience.
• Broad profile across multiple underground structures; quick to learn new ones.
• Working knowledge of Eurocodes and finite element analysis.
• Professional fluency in English; Danish or another Scandinavian language is a plus.
• Interest in digital tools, scripting or automation is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Structural design of underground structures: tunnel linings, shafts, cut and cover structures, retaining walls and station structures.
• Analysis and modelling in finite element software.
• Assessment of soil structure interaction, settlements and effects on neighbouring buildings.
• Design reports, technical specifications, drawing input and tender documentation.
• Close coordination with contractors, BIM colleagues and clients.
• Potential discipline lead responsibility or design coordination, or development of digital design tools.
