Job summary

NIRAS is seeking underground design engineers in Copenhagen to work across tunnel and underground projects. You will contribute to structural design, soil-structure interaction, and construction methodology, joining a growing department that collaborates with geotechnical, bridge, hydraulic and environmental specialists.

We welcome a broad profile with 5–15 years of design experience in underground or heavy civil projects, and a strong grasp of Eurocodes and FE analysis.

Qualifications

• MCs in Civil or Structural Engineering, or equivalent background.
• 5–15 years design experience, with underground or heavy civil structures.
• Broad profile across several types of underground structure; quick learner of new types.
• Working knowledge of Eurocodes and experience with finite element analysis.
• Professional fluency in English; Danish or another Scandinavian language is a plus.
• Interest in digital tools, scripting or automation is a plus, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Structural design of underground structures: tunnel linings, shafts, cut and cover structures, retaining walls and station structures.
• Analysis and modelling in finite element software.
• Assessment of soil-structure interaction, settlements and effects on neighbouring buildings and infrastructure.
• Design reports, technical specifications, drawing input and tender documentation.
• Close coordination with contractors, BIM colleagues and clients.
• Discipline lead responsibility, design coordination, or development of digital design tools, depending on experience.
