Job summary

Metro Service in Copenhagen is seeking technicians to repair and maintain trains, tracks, power, signals and related systems. Technicians come from diverse backgrounds and must hold a journeyman's certificate and a B-class driving licence.

All technicians receive specialized training and work in teams across workshops, stations, tracks or bogie workshops, with shifts that cover day and night hours. Fluent Danish and English reading of manuals is required.

Qualifications

• Be able to speak and understand Danish and English and read technical English manuals.
• Have a driving licence (category B).
• Be able to present a criminal record.

Responsibilities

Job description

Metro Service technicians are an essential part of our core mission: To deliver the best service to the passengers in the Metro and the Greater Copenhagen Light Rail.

The technicians make it all go round

Both the Metro and Greater Copenhagen Light Rail are complex systems with many components, systems, trains, rails, platform doors and much more.

Our many technicians perform a wide variety of tasks within repair and maintenance of trains, tracks, power, signals, train IT and other technical systems. Therefore, they come from many different backgrounds and educations.

All our technicians have a journeyman's certificate (svendebrev) and come from different professional backgrounds – from electricians to aircraft mechanics to refrigeration engineers.

When you are hired as a technician at Metro Service, you will receive the specific training that qualifies you for the job. Most of our technicians have a background as a skilled electrician, automation technician, mechanic, welder, or similar.

Technicians work in teams and, depending on the department, at all hours of the day and night. Some work in our workshops at our control and maintenance centres, while others work primarily at the stations, in technical rooms, on the tracks or in our bogie workshop at Nordholmen.

Division of technician groups

We have technicians working on the Metro and technicians working on the Light Rail.

The Metro

Our technicians in the Metro are divided into three departments:

Rolling stock (RUL)

• The technicians in RUL work on the trains in our workshop. This includes turning wheels, changing doors and checking steering systems.

Infrastructure

• In the Automatic Train Control department - also known as ATC - employees e.g. work with train signalling, the automatic doors at stations and controlling switches, among other things.
• In the track department, the employees work with rail inspection and control, and they are also responsible for rail grinding where necessary. The work usually takes place at night to minimise disturbance of the train operation.
• In the Passenger Security Information System department - also known as PSIS - employees service ticket vending machines, radios and other communication between the control room, stewards and technicians. PSIS is also responsible for maintaining the systems used to communicate with passengers, such as screens and speakers.
• In the Civil Works department, employees are responsible for service and maintenance of stations and Metro Service's own buildings.

Power/Mechanical & Electrical(M&E)

• In the Power department, employees work with high voltage current.
• In M&E , employees work with weak current e.g. on lifts, escalators and various hydraulic pumps.

The Greater Copenhagen Light Rail

Our technicians in the Greater Copenhagen Light Rail are divided into two departments:

Infrastructure

• In the track department , the employees work with, among other things, rail inspection and control, just as they are responsible for rail grinding where this is necessary. As a rule, the work always takes place at night in order to disturb the operation as little as possible.
• In the Service Equipment department , we maintain and calibrate special tools and equipment. Next, the department also ensures that the service vehicles are ready to drive.
• In the Civil Works department , the employees are responsible for service and maintenance at stations and in Metro Service's own buildings.

Power/Mechanical & Electrical (M&E)

• In the Traction Power department , we inspect and maintain the catenary lines so that we can maintain operations as best as possible.
• M&E is responsible for everything mechanical and electrical at the supply points out on the track and in the administration and maintenance area in Glostrup.

Training and background:

All technicians in Metro Service receive training to become metro technicians. An education that can only be taken at Metro Service.

To be considered for a job as a technician at Metro Service, you must:

• Have a driving licence (category B)
• Have a journeyman's certificate
• Receive medical authorisation by the Danish Civil Aviation & Railway Authority (Trafikstyrelsen)
• Be able to speak and understand Danish and English and be able to read technical English manuals
• Be able to present a criminal record
