Job description

The Copenhagen Metro transports approximately 10 million passengers monthly and plays a crucial role in the city's daily operations. Are you ready to significantly impact the mobility of Copenhagen's citizens?

The Copenhagen Metro is looking to recruit a Senior System Engineer with proven experience in signaling systems, preferable for driverless metro operations. The successful candidate will be expected to take on the role of cross-system integration lead, overseeing key aspects of complex functions system design, implementation and system acceptance.

The Copenhagen metro is in the initial phase of a major brownfield project called Rolling Stock, Re-signaling Reinvestment (3XR) which includes the upgrading of the metro’s signaling systems to ensure improved reliability, efficiency, and future compatibility. It also involves modernizing the existing rolling stock fleet with updated technology to enhance performance and optimize operations. The current system is driverless and run 24/7, the migration to the new driverless system shall be carried out with the minimal disruptions on the current service and in a seamless way.

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Senior System Engineer with leadership skills, coordination skills and a relevant background in signaling system architecture, network infrastructure, and railway communication technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the cross-functional design and the system acceptance ensuring effective integration and coordination across the program’s technical and operational systems.
• Define design concepts and manage the integration of communication networks and IT systems for CBTC metro and light rail operations.
• Play a key role in capturing the specificity current operational concept and translating these into tender requirements.
• Review technical specifications, interface descriptions, and system architecture documents.
• Interface and coordinate with suppliers and consultants during procurement, design, and implementation phases.
• Support migration team in defining the correct strategies.
• Support and witness testing, commissioning, and system validation (FAT, SAT, and on-site activities).
• Ensure proper integration of communication systems into the broader metro infrastructure (signaling, SCADA, control centres, etc.).
• Contribute to RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, and Safety) documentation and risk assessments.
• Participate in the development of long‑term network architecture and contribute to cybersecurity measures for operational systems.
• Monitor compliance with EU regulations and Danish railway safety requirements.

Technical competences skills

• Able to understand operational concept and familiar with the operation floor.
• Good knowledge of radio communication-based control system in signaling railway applications, preferably in driverless metro systems.
• System integration in complex digital systems, including train track integration.
• Knowledge of IP networking, fiber optics, switches/routers, and communication protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, SNMP, VLAN).
• Experience with system lifecycle management, requirements engineering tools (e.g., DOORS).
• Familiarity with relevant standards such as EN 50126, EN 50129, EN 50159, IEC 63452 and IEC 62443 (cybersecurity).

Language Requirements

• Proficiency in English (written and spoken) is required.
• Knowledge of Danish is an advantage, or willingness to learn.

The Company

The Copenhagen Metro Company is leading large construction and transportation projects of international scale, with a focus on sustainable public transport for Greater Copenhagen's citizens and visitors. The company is experiencing an exciting and busy period with the above-mentioned large metro projects and the construction and development of the light rail west of Copenhagen.

The appointee will be employed in the Transportation Systems Unit with 25 dedicated technical specialists and managers. The Unit's task is to secure the design and installation of all transportation system parts, i.e., different signal systems for driverless metro operation. The Unit monitors the delivery from the transportation system suppliers and the fulfilment of requirements. It is active in all phases of the infrastructure projects – analysis, planning, specification of requirements, design, installation, test, commissioning and operation.
